A magnificent silver gilt racing cup
The plinth with 2 plaques engraved "County Cup won by King Charles", the other plaque "Western Meeting Ayr 1906". The cup is beautifully decorated with fruiting vines to the top edge, the polished body with "County Cup won by King Charles Ayr 1906", the opposite side a classical figure and the motto "Saluti Hominum" within a circular frame of fruit, crops and ribbons, above a rectangular plaque with a dog. Hallmarked London, 1906, maker's mark for Watherston Silversmiths of 6 Vigo Street, the plaques are also both fully hallmarked, with the original wooden biaze lined fitted box with original key.
