Hunt was a Yorkshireman who migrated north and lived most of his life in Glasgow, where he was elected in to the Glasgow Art Club in 1879 and became president in 1906-1907. His works were exhibited at both the Royal Academy in London and the Royal Scottish Academy. He was elected a member of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (RSW) in 1885 and was made an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy (ASRA) in 1929.
